I’ve been feeling a bit discouraged about the job hunt. Without an NZ teacher registration I really don’t feel like I have that many marketable skills. I am good at writing, but as I’ve said in the past, I don’t know that writing is really a realistic way to earn a living….at least not unless you’ve been doing it for a while.
I’ve been looking at freelance writing jobs and I found this website called Upwork which allows freelancers to make profiles and search for jobs, and employers or companies to search through profiles and/or post a project.
I’m not always the best at finding credible websites and I am a very gullible person so I wasn’t too sure about Upwork. Then my brother, who is the opposite of the two things I just said, e-mailed me and asked me if I’d heard of Upwork and said it was a great place to find writing jobs.
In order to search and make proposals for writing jobs on their website I had to have a profile approved. So yesterday I made a profile and submitted it.
Less than two hours later I got an e-mail back saying they were sorry but they were unable to approve my profile at this time because I don’t have enough marketable skills and my profile is too similar to numerous other profiles they receive.
Man. I was SO discouraged. I mean, even a freelance writing website was turning me down?! Ugh.
And THEN….to make matters worse… just before bed my phone dinged and I checked my e-mail and it was a message from Upwork that said, “Leah, what’s stopping you? Start searching for jobs now!” with a drawing of a little soaring rocket ship heading for the stars.
What’s stopping me?! You are!!
And thanks for pouring salt into this wound.
My brother said the denial of my profile is not permanent and that I can work on it and resubmit it for review as many times as I want. And he sent me a website that has steps on how to make your Upwork blog successful.
So, my life goal is now to get the people of Upwork to accept my profile.
I don’t care if I never get a paying job off their website.
It’s now a matter of pride.
I had a job interview today. It went pretty well. Waaay better than I was expecting actually.
More on that later.
I’m going to go do yoga to a YouTube video now.
P.S. My cauliflower “meat”balls turned out great.
P.P.S. Here’s a picture of a red panda, just in case you need something to smile at today.
